The RCU20 delivers 8,300 CFM at 2 HP — 200 CFM more than the RCU18 2HP within the same motor class — through a 20-inch aluminum alloy upblast body. It is the appropriate choice when the duct design calls for a 20-inch connection at the roof termination point, or when the system’s resistance curve requires the larger impeller diameter to achieve the target airflow at 2 HP without overspeeding a smaller impeller.
The RCU20 sits at a practical crossover point in the RCU range: it delivers marginally more airflow than the RCU18 2HP at identical motor power, but its primary advantage is the 20-inch duct connection. When the building’s roof extract riser is already sized at 20 inches — a common design choice for kitchens exceeding 150 m² or exhaust systems serving multiple floors — the RCU20 connects directly without reducers, avoiding the pressure drop and turbulence that transitions introduce into high-velocity duct runs.
At 8,300 CFM, the RCU20 serves large commercial kitchen roof exhaust for restaurants with 250 or more seats, hotel all-day dining kitchen extract points, and smoke extract risers in commercial towers where the fire engineer has specified a 20-inch roof termination unit. The aluminum alloy construction and 572°F enhanced temperature rating make it compatible with smoke control system designations in buildings where the rooftop exhaust fan must maintain operation during the early stages of a fire event.
When the exhaust load sits between 6,200 and 8,300 CFM, both RCU18 variants cover the range. For loads exceeding 9,000 CFM that justify stepping to a 3 HP motor, the RCU24 3HP (11,600 CFM) is the next appropriate unit.
