CFM = 8100
HP = 2
The RCU18 2HP steps up to 8,100 CFM — a 31% increase over the 1.5 HP variant — making it the first unit in the RCU18 housing capable of serving large commercial kitchen roof exhaust points, hotel kitchen sections, and smoke exhaust risers in mid-rise commercial buildings. The 2 HP motor drives the 18-inch impeller to a higher operating point, delivering the additional airflow without increasing the unit’s physical footprint.
At 8,100 CFM, the RCU18 2HP covers rooftop exhaust for commercial kitchens operating five to seven active cooking stations simultaneously, hotel kitchen sections serving banqueting or large-scale food production, and smoke exhaust systems in commercial buildings where the fire strategy requires a rooftop fan capable of sustaining extract rates above 7,500 CFM at elevated temperatures. The 572°F maximum operating temperature in the enhanced configuration allows the same unit to function under fire conditions where a standard ventilation fan would fail within minutes of exposure.
The distinction between the RCU18 1.5 HP and the RCU18 2HP is not just capacity — it is operating condition. The 1.5 HP variant is optimised for moderate continuous exhaust where energy efficiency is prioritised. The 2HP variant is designed for installations where peak demand regularly approaches 8,000 CFM, requiring the motor to sustain higher output over extended operating periods without thermal overload.
For exhaust requirements between 6,200 and 8,000 CFM, the RCU18 1.5HP is the lower-cost and lower-power alternative. When the design airflow target moves beyond 8,200 CFM, the RCU20 (8,300 CFM, 2 HP) offers a marginal capacity increase, while the RCU24 3HP (11,600 CFM) addresses significantly larger loads.
